I would have separated bicycle traffic from pedestrian traffic, placing the bicycle traffic in the roadway/driveway to the left of the fence. I would have carried the bicycle traffic through to Old Colony Way, the road in the left background, having the bicycle traffic exit to the continuation of the Rail Trail at a lower-traffic, less complicated location in the background. A traffic signal at the intersection wouldn't be a bad idea either.
